TROOPS OF THE 7TH LIGHT REGIMENT, SRI LANKA ARTILLERY, LAID FOUNDATION STONE TO BUILD A HOUSE FOR A NEEDY FAMILY
2025-07-04Under the guidance of the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery, Maj Gen KVNP Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, a housing construction programme has been launched for a homeless family residing within the Hingurakgoda Divisional Secretariat. This initiative is implemented by the Sri Lanka Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch in alignment with the Clean Sri Lanka Project.
Conceived as a social service initiative of the 7th Light Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, the project aims to uplift the living standards of the civilian population irrespective of ethnic or religious background. The construction work is being undertaken with the active contribution of troops of the 7th Light Artillery Regiment.
This endeavour is being made possible through the generous financial donation of Mrs. Zoysa Weerawardena, who contributed in memory of her late husband, Mr. Preethi Weerawardena.
The foundation-stone laying ceremony, marking the commencement of construction, was held on 4 July 2025 at Paluwaddana, Hingurakgoda, following religious observances and with appropriate ceremonial dignity.
Hon. TB Sarath MP, the Deputy Minister of Housing, Maj Gen KVNP Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery, Mrs. Vindya Premaratne, the President of the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch, graced the occasion.
Further, Brig TGIA Ariyaratne RSP IG, the Commander Artillery Brigade, Brig SN Wijesinghe USP IG, the Commander 233 Infantry Brigade, Col W S A B Dharmaratne RSP USP psc IG, the Commandant School of Artillery, attended the event, along with the Deputy Centre Commandant of Regimental Headquarters, Sri Lanka Artillery, several Senior Officers and Officers.
Moreover, Mrs. R.I.B. Sandhya P. Ratnamalala, Divisional Secretary of Hingurakgoda, several government officials, relatives of the donor and residents were present at the event.
