4th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery Marks 63rd Anniversary with Pride and Tradition

The 4th Field Regiment of the Sri Lanka Artillery proudly celebrated its 63rd Anniversary on 26 April, marking a significant milestone in its distinguished history as one of the most prestigious regiments of the Sri Lanka Army. Established in 1963 as the oldest member of the Gunner Family, the regiment has rendered invaluable service to the nation over the decades. Its operational legacy includes active involvement during the 1971 insurgency and a vital role throughout the Eelam Wars, delivering decisive artillery fire support to ground forces. Continuously modernized with advanced weaponry, the regiment has also contributed significantly to Humanitarian Operations in the North and East, exemplifying unwavering commitment, courage, and professionalism.

In commemoration of the anniversary, a Bodhi Pooja was held on 25 April at the regimental temple within the 4th Field Regiment premises. The temple was specially renovated in preparation for the ceremony, reflecting the regiment’s strong spiritual foundation and adherence to cherished traditions. The following day’s proceedings commenced with a ceremonial parade accorded to the 33rd Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel RMPGLC Samarakoon RWP RSP psc IG SLA. Conducted with precision and pride, the parade highlighted the discipline and high standards maintained by the regiment.

Subsequent events included a tree planting ceremony symbolizing growth and continuity, followed by a formal lunch that fostered camaraderie among all ranks. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to Non Commissioned Officers for their dedication, while civil staff were recognized for their valuable contributions. The celebrations concluded with an All Ranks evening gathering, strengthening bonds of fellowship and regimental pride. The 63rd Anniversary not only honored the regiment’s illustrious past but also reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to excellence, duty and service to the nation.
