Differently Abled War Hero Qualifies for Paralympics Games Tokyo - 2021

Sri Lanka's number one Wheel Chair Tennis player differently abled war hero Sgt Dharmasena DHR of Sri Lanka Army (Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery) was selected for 2021 Tokyo Paralympics games. This is the third time that a Wheel Chair Tennis player of Sri Lanka selected for this golden opportunity.

Sgt Dharmasena DHR has joined the Sri Lanka Army in year 2007, after completing his basic training he was posted to 11 Regiment of Sri Lankan Artillery. He was injured during the humanitarian operation and lost his left limb below the knee to a terrorist attack in northern area. After his injury he started playing Wheel Chair Tennis in Year 2010 and with his willpower, dedication and commitment he could become the number one player in Sri Lanka and got the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka inseveral international level tournaments in all over the world.

During year 2018 and 2019 Sgt Dharmasena DHR dominated international Wheel Chair Tennis tournaments and uplifted his world rankings to number 38, the highest achievement shown by a local Wheel Chair Tennis player. These outstanding performances of Sgt Dharmasena DHR which were evaluated by the ITF and given the golden opportunity to Sri Lanka's no one player to participate in Paralympics 2021 in Tokyo this year. He is the Bronze medalist of Asian para games in 2018. He won the gold medal in open doubles category in Malaysian Labuan open Wheel Chair Tennis championship and won the silver medal in Malaysia Kualalampur open single in year 2018. He Participated in Taiwan Open Wheel Chair Tennis Championship in year 2018 and won silver medal in open singles and the gold medal in open doubles category.His current position in Wheel Chair Tennis international rankings is 62.

For the whole process support and supervision given by The President of SLTA Mr Iqbal Bin Issac, and Major General Shiran Abeysekera, the Vice President of Sri Lanka Tennis Association. Under the guidance of. Mr AJ Welikala (Head Coach) & Mr Gayanga Weerasekera (Assistant Coach) Sgt Dharmasena DHR is preparing himself for the Paralympics 2021 to gain motherland another achievement.
